Hydrops & Mucocele : Macroscopic Features

Macroscopic Features: The gallbladder is massively enlarged and may contain as much as 1000 to 1500 ml of clear watery fluid (hydrops) or inspissated mucin (mucocele). When it is associated with chronic cholecystitis or multiple gallstones, the wall is often thickened due to inflammation and fibrosis. In acute childhood cases or when it is caused by the obstruction of cystic duct by a single stone, it is usually thin-walled and translucent.
