Comments:
The gross appearance of amebic colitis is variable. The colonic epithelium may just be indurated without ulcerations; or there may be numerous small ulcers with friable granular mucosa. The ulcers are typically flask-shaped with a narrow neck and broad base. In severe cases, there are large coalesced areas of ulceration covered by shaggy exudate with normal intervening mucosa (as seen in this image).
