Solitary Fibrous Tumor : Treatment & Prognosis:
Image Description
About 70% of solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) are histologically benign and cured by simple excision (or wedge resection of lung in case of pleura-based tumors). Tumors with histologic criteria of malignancy (shown here) develop recurrences and/or metastasis in about 50% of cases following simple resection. Malignant SFT is an aggressive sarcoma with 5-yr and 10-yr survival rates of 40% and 30% respectively.
