Neural Fibrolipoma : Gross Pathology
Image Description
Gross Pathology: Complete resection of neural fibrolipomas is contraindicated as it causes sensory and motor deficits. Therefore, a surgical specimen is rarely received in the gross room. Intraoperatively, the surgeon notices soft, yellowish, sausage-shaped expansion of the affected nerve and its branches as nicely shown here.
Pathogenesis: The pathogenesis is not exactly known. PIK3CA mutations have been reported in patients who develop neural fibrolipoma-associated macrodactyly.
