Image Description

Microscopic Features (continued): The dedifferentiated foci in dedifferentiated liposarcomas (DLPS) are usually high-grade; however, low-grade dedifferentiation is seen about 10% of DLPS. The low-grade areas are moderately cellular, consist of intersecting fascicles of uniform fibroblastic cells with mild nuclear atypia, and resemble well-differentiated fibrosarcoma or fibromatosis.

The low-grade areas usually coexist with areas of high-grade dedifferentiation. About 10% of cases contain pure low-grade dedifferentiation. Low-grade DLPS (a non-lipomatous tumor) should be distinguished from atypical spindle cell lipomatous tumor (a lipomatous tumor with lipoblasts).
