Liposarcoma : Lipoblasts

Lipoblasts may be scant in number or even absent altogether and are not required for the diagnosis of some subtypes of liposarcoma. Atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcomas (ALT/WDL) have few or no lipoblasts. On the other hand, some benign lipomatous lesions and non-lipomatous malignant tumors have cells resembling lipoblasts that may lead to a mistaken diagnosis of liposarcoma. In such cases, it is important to pay attention to the histologic background in which these lipoblast-like cells are present.

This liposarcoma shows numerous uni- and multivacuolated lipoblasts.
