Image Description

One of the helpful (but not necessary) diagnostic features of liposarcoma is the presence of lipoblasts. Lipoblast is a medium-sized to large cell with one or more hyperchromatic nuclei and cytoplasmic lipid vacuoles. There may be a single large lipid vacuole that compresses the nucleus, creating a signet ring appearance; or there may be multiple smaller vacuoles that create sharp indentations or scalloping in the nucleus. Several lipoblasts are seen in this example of a pleomorphic liposarcoma. (discussion continues in the next 2 images)
