Clinical Features: Liposarcomas are generally large, deep-seated tumors. They occur in adults and are rarely seen in children and adolescents but have been documented in that age group. The most common sites are lower extremities, retroperitoneum, perirenal areas, mesentery, and the shoulder region. There is no evidence that they arise by malignant transformation of lipomas.
The image shows a liposarcoma that was resected from the thigh of a 68 y/o male. The tumor consists of multiple masses of adipose tissue resembling large lipomas. Histology showed a well-differentiated liposarcoma.
