Hibernoma : Clinical Features
Image Description
Clinical Features: Hibernoma is a tumor of adults with a peak incidence in the 3rd decade. Cases have been reported in the pediatric age group as well as the elderly. It presents as a slow-growing, painless, mobile, subcutaneous mass. Less than 20% are intramuscular.
Hibernomas demonstrate increased uptake of the radioactive marker on FDG-PET scans and are often discovered incidentally during staging work-up for other malignancies. Rare cases have been reported in association with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1.
The image shows hibernoma composed of polygonal cells with eosinophilic granular cytoplasm, multivacuolated cells, as well as mature adipocytes.
