Image Description

The cut surface is tan-grey. The overlying epidermis appears stretched. The deeper aspects of the tumor infiltrate into the subcutaneous fat. This accounts for a recurrence rate of almost 50% with conservative excision. It drops down to about 20% with wide local excision. Mohs' surgery has been used in some cases to reduce recurrences. Rare cases metastasize to lungs or lymph nodes usually after multiple recurrences.
