Image Description

Introduction: Keloid is a cutaneous, tumor-like mass that results from an abnormal dermal response to local injury. It is most often seen in genetically susceptible individuals. The trauma may be minor and sometimes barely noticeable, but still results in keloid formation. The word Keloid (claw-like in Greek) refers to multiple extensions that give it a claw-like or crab-like appearance.

Keloid extends into the surrounding areas, beyond the site of initial injury. This differentiates it from hypertrophic scars which remain confined to the original wound site. The image shows keloid that formed on the side of neck at the site of nevus removal.
