Image Description

Introduction: Elastofibroma is an uncommon, benign, slow-growing, deep-seated pseudotumor that typically occurs in the subcapsular region of middle-aged or elderly individuals.

It is composed of abnormal, thickened, rope-like or globoid elastic fibers in a hypocellular collagenous background mixed with adipose tissue. The exact pathogenesis is poorly understood; however, recurrent friction between the scapula and the thoracic wall causing degenerative changes in elastic fibrous tissue appears to play a role. Similar lesions have been observed in extrascapular sites and the previously used term elastofibroma dorsi has been replaced by elastofibroma.
