Image Description

Some cases of squamous cell carcinoma of lung have a prominent endobronchial polypoid or papillary component. The resulting obstruction of the bronchial lumen can lead to atelectasis, obstructive bronchopneumonia, and bronchiectasis.

The image show post-obstructive lipoid pneumonia resulting from accumulated secretions distal to obstruction. The alveolar spaces are engorged with lipid-laden macrophages. The alveolar septa are thickened and contain inflammatory cells.
