Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma : Introduction
Image Description
Introduction: Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is a rare, highly aggressive variant of chondrosarcoma that arises in bones (more common) as well as soft tissues. It has a biphasic appearance consisting of sheets of small undifferentiated round to spindle cells intermixed with islands of well-differentiated hyaline cartilage. It is now considered to be a translocation-associated sarcoma and shows recurrent t(8;8)(q21.1;q13.3) resulting in HEY1-NCOA2 fusion in 90% of cases. It has poor prognosis due to a tendency to late local and distant recurrences.
