Image Description

Most of the tumor cells in this field have epithelioid appearance with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. In small biopsy specimens, this may lead to the mistaken impression of metastatic carcinoma. However, the nuclei are bland and physaliphorous cells are seen on the left side of the image. Most metastatic carcinomas will show greater degree of cytologic atypia, will not have the lobular architecture of chordomas, and will lack expression of brachyury.
