Image Description

High-power view of a chondromyxoid fibroma showing round, oval, or irregular nuclei and stellate cytoplasmic extensions in the tumor cells. Focally, the tumor may show nuclear atypia in the form of enlarged, irregular nuclei. There may be multinucleation, nuclear vacuolization, and smudged nuclear chromatin and this atypia resembles “degenerative” atypia seen in other benign tumors. Treatment is by block excision. Curettage is followed by recurrences in about 25% of cases.
