Image Description

Another gross specimen photograph showing an enchondroma involving small bones of hand in the setting of Maffucci syndrome. The cartilage has lobulated appearance. The risk of malignant transformation is higher in Maffucci syndrome than that associated with Ollier disease. Radiographic appearance is critical in distinguishing an enchondroma from a well-differentiated low-grade chondrosarcoma.
