Image Description

Pineoblastomas are composed of sheets of primitive-appearing cells with large hyperchromatic nuclei and minimal cytoplasm. Foci of necrosis can be seen in the center of the image. Pineoblastomas are associated with a high risk of craniospinal spread as well as extracranial metastases. Accordingly, the prognosis is poor with a 5-yr survival rate of between 50% and 60%.
