Image Description

Gliomatosis cerebri is a diffusely infiltrating astrocytoma that involves multiple lobes (usually > 3) or brain compartments. Its behavior is very similar to that of glioblastoma. Histologically, it shows atypical glial cells (usually Grade II or III) diffusely infiltrating throughout the involved lobes (as shown here). Given the insidious nature of this tumor, it may be silent clinically for a long time even when the involvement of cerebral lobes is extensive.
