Calcification in ependymomas is variable and may be focal, extensive, or altogether absent. Given their circumscribed growth, surgical excision is the treatment of choice for ependymomas. This may be followed by local irradiation. Histologic grading as a prognostic indicator is much less reliable in ependymomas than in other gliomas.
