Image Description

Liver involved in disseminated histoplasmosis is usually enlarged. The yeast forms are found in abundance in sinusoidal Kupffer cells and portal macrophages. They are best visualized with Grocott silver stain. One may see small tuberculoid granulomas or, rarely, large tumor-like areas with central necrosis and dystrophic calcification, surrounded by a granulomatous rim.
