Image Description

Genital condylomas show marked acanthosis, papillomatosis, hyperkeratosis, and parakeratosis. Superficial layers show vacuolated keratinocytes (koilocytes) and prominent coarse keratohyalin granules. Binucleated cells, dyskeratocytes, and wrinkled nuclei (raisinoid appearance) may also be seen.

Condylomas generally have low-grade dysplasia and are included in the category of low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LGSIL; see next slide for further discussion of terminology). Cytologic atypia is minimal and mitotic figures are scant and both are confined to the basal third of the epithelium.
