Image Description

Giant Condyloma (Buschke-Lowenstein Tumor): Rare cases of condyloma acuminata, caused by HPV types 6, 11, or 16, become large, exuberant and locally destructive. According to some, they are best classified and treated as a variant of verrucous carcinoma. Microscopically, they have a tendency to show endophytic growth with broad pushing margins and no evidence of stromal infiltration. They can recur but do not metastasize.

This gross specimen photograph of a giant anal condyloma shows a cauliflower-like mass that reached almost 10 cm in size. Image courtesy of Jian-Hua Qiao, MD; used with permission.
