Borderline lepromatous leprosy manifests with a large number of skin lesions consisting of plaques and ill-defined infiltrated nodules. Unlike lepromatous leprosy, the lesions are not symmetrical. Nerve trunks are palpably thickened. In borderline lepromatous leprosy, there is increased circumscription of the granulomatous response, greater number of lymphocytes than LL, and greater association with nerves and appendages (as seen here). Mycobacterium leprae are seen with Wade-Fite stain either singly or forming globi.
