Image Description

Liver in Systemic Mastocytosis (SM): Involvement of liver in SM is usually seen in the form of small periportal or intrasinusoidal infiltrates of mast cells (MC). Such infiltrates are not seen in normal or reactive liver and their presence indicates liver involvement by mastocytosis. In aggressive systemic mastocytosis and mast cell leukemia, diffuse liver involvement may cause fibrosis, portal hypertension, and ascites (C-findings). However, cirrhosis is generally not seen.
