CD20+ and CD79a+ B-cells are present in varying numbers either scattered singly or in follicular aggregates in angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma.

The B cells are small but become large and blast-like when infected with EBV. Latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) is positive by immunohistochemistry in 30% to 50% of cases; however, EBER is more sensitive for detecting the EBV (see next two images)
