AITL : Prognosis
Image Description
Prognosis of Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL): AITL is a rapidly progressive disease with a poor outcome. The median survival is under 3 years. Spontaneous remissions do occur in rare cases. The cause of death in most cases is complications from infectious diseases rather than lymphoma itself. The presence of systemic manifestations at diagnosis (ascites, edema, rash, pruritus) portends a rapidly downhill clinical course.
Given the abnormal T-cell function and the immunodeficient state, many patients with AITL develop EBV+ diffuse large B-cell lymphoma as shown in this image.
