Image Description

In nodal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), the lymph node architecture is effaced partially or completely by a diffuse infiltrate of lymphoid cells. This image shows complete effacement of the native architecture. The tumor permeates outside the node into the surrounding soft tissues (upper left part of the image). In some cases, the pattern of involvement is interfollicular or sinusoidal. On occasion, one may see coexisting low-grade lymphoma such as follicular lymphoma, small lymphocytic lymphoma or Hodgkin lymphoma within the same node. Other features that may be appreciated at low power include necrosis, sclerosis, and starry sky pattern.
