Image Description

Nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL): Several lymphocyte-predominant (LP) cells with complex, multilobated nuclei (popcorn cells) are seen in this image in a background of small lymphocytes (mostly B cells). The LP cells have one or more basophilic nucleoli and scant cytoplasm. A few scattered epithelioid histiocytes are also present.

Most LP cells are surrounded by a rosette of T cells expressing CD3 (see image), CD4, and CD57. The CD4+ T cells also express PD1 and IRF4 (MUM1).

Besides these cells, the nodules may also contain multinucleated Warthin-Finkeldey giant cells (rare) and neoplastic cells resembling classic Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells.
