Toxoplasma Lymphadenitis: The lymphoid follicles are markedly hyperplastic and enlarged and may be misshapen. The reactive germinal centers have increased number of centroblasts and brisk mitotic activity. Tingible body macrophages containing phagocytized nuclear debris are present.
Case History: The patient was a 19 y/o male who presented with painless axillary lymphadenopathy. Lymph node biopsy showed findings of toxoplasma lymphadenitis. The diagnosis was confirmed by serologic tests. The image shows a cluster of epithelioid cells (upper right) in the vicinity of a hyperplastic follicle. The causative agent, Toxoplasma gondii, is rarely found in the lymph nodes affected by the disease.
