Basal Cell Adenoma : Differential Diagnosis
Image Description
High-power view of a basal cell adenoma showing clusters of basaloid cells separated by copious amounts of eosinophilic basement membrane-like material.
The differential diagnosis of basal cell adenoma includes pleomorphic adenoma, adenoid cystic carcinoma, basal cell adenocarcinoma and ameloblastoma. Basal cell adenomas contain scant numbers of stromal myoepithelial cells - a feature which is absent in adenoid cystic carcinomas.
