Pleomorphic Adenoma
Image Description
Pleomorphic adenomas commonly involve the parotid gland. On MRI scan, they usually appear as well-circumscribed homogenous masses when small. Larger tumors may have a heterogenous appearance.
This MRI scan on the neck region (T1 image with contrast; coronal view) is from 30 y/o male who presented with swelling over his left parotid region. The image shows a well defined lobulated mass which predominantly involves the superficial lobe of the left parotid gland but also extends into the deep lobe. It shows heterogenous enhancement with contrast. The diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma was confirmed by fine needle aspiration cytology. Case courtesy of Dr Vinay Shah, Radiopaedia.org.
