Respiratory Epithelial Adenomatoid Hamartoma
Image Description
Respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartoma (REAH) is a proliferation of well-differentiated glands lined by respiratory-type mucosa. The most frequent location is posterior part of nasal septum. It is considered to be a hamartoma, although some have suggested that it may be a neoplasm related to low-grade sinonasal adenocarcinoma.
This image is from a protruding polypoid mass removed from the left nares of a 48 y/o man. The polypoid fragment showed a proliferation of glandular spaces lined by ciliated epithelium, with a basal cell layer. The basal cells were p63 positive and SMA negative .
