Aggressive Angiomyxoma : Treatment
Image Description
Aggressive Angiomyxoma - Treatment:The treatment of choice is wide surgical resection with 1 cm margins. However, due to infiltrative growth and poor circumscription, it is difficult to excise this tumor completely resulting in high risk of local recurrences, often seen in the ischiorectal and retroperitoneal spaces. Given the presence of hormonal receptors, many cases have been successfully treated with gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists. Rare examples of lung metastases have been reported.
The image shows an aggressive angiomyxoma arising in the vulvar region of a 25 y/o female. The tumor was hypocellular, poorly circumscribed, composed of bland spindle cells and had matrix of fibrillary collagen.
