It is a rare benign tumor that may present as a polyp or an intramural lesion usually in girls 2-5 years of age. It may be mistaken for botyroid rhabdomyosarcoma. The tumor has papillary, glandular and cystic architecture. The lining epithelium is cuboidal or low columnar. The papillae have myxoid stroma which may contain blood vessels and inflammatory cells.
It has been referred to as mesonephric papilloma; however, it is of mullerian origin and is now called benign mullerian papilloma. This specimen is from a female infant who presented with vaginal bleeding.
