Atypical Leiomyoma of Uterus

Areas of hypercellularity can be seen in atypical leiomyomas. Tumor cells may be completely atypical with multinucleated pleomorphic nuclei, coarse smudged chromatin and nuclear inclusions (as shown here). Despite the worrisome histologic features, most tumors exhibit benign behavior. Extensive sampling is important to rule out malignancy.
