Image Description

Microscopic Features (continued from the previous image): The stroma between fascicles of spindle cells is collagenous and shows dense hyaline bands and plaques (see next image) as well as calcified areas. Hypocellular islands may be created by areas of myxoid or edematous change in the stroma. Rare cases show eosinophilic hyaline globules or melanin pigment. Focal hemorrhage and infarct-type necrosis may be seen (especially if the tumor undergoes torsion), but coagulative tumor necrosis is absent.

A minor component (<10%) of sex cord-stromal elements such as clusters of granulosa cells is present in some cases.
