Image Description

This patient underwent bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for ovarian cysts. Serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC) was found in both fallopian tubes. The BRCA status and family history of this patient is unknown.

STIC is a precursor lesion for some high-grade pelvic serous carcinomas. STIC is usually seen near the fimbriated end of the fallopian and its incidence is estimated to be 0.6% to 6% of women undergoing risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy either due to BRCA mutations or strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer.
