Image Description

Some women with advanced ovarian cancer (Stage IIIC-IV) receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy prior to surgery. It can shrink the tumor and make resection easier reducing morbidity.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy can induce bizarre cytologic changes in the tumor (as shown here) and make histologic subtyping difficult. The immunohistochemical profile does not seem to be affected as much and may be useful in classifying treated tumors.
