Image Description

High-grade serous carcinomas of the ovary are large bulky tumors which are frequently bilateral. They are often exophytic and show an admixture of cystic, papillary, and solid growth. The solid foci often show hemorrhage and necrosis. The fallopian tube sometimes shows polypoid mass near its fimbriated end.

This case was discovered during exploratory laparotomy in a woman who presented with intestinal obstruction. The cut surface of the tumor shows solid, cystic and papillary areas. Image courtesy of Ed Uthman, MD, Houston, Texas. Used with permission
