Mucinous Borderline Tumor
Image Description
Cytologic atypia in a mucinous borderline tumor - intestinal type: The subdivision of ovarian mucinous tumors into benign, borderline, and malignant is based on the degree of cell proliferation, nuclear atypia, and the presence or absence of stromal invasion. By definition, MBTs show greater degree of cell proliferation and nuclear atypia (as seen here) than benign tumors, but without stromal invasion. Borderline and benign areas of this MBT are juxtaposed on the opposing sides of a papillae in this image.
