Image Description

Treatment & Prognosis: Primary ovarian carcinoids are indolent tumors with an excellent prognosis in >95% of cases. A small percentage of tumors that have large size (>7 cm), extraovarian involvement at the time of diagnosis, insular or mucinous morphology, and an association with carcinoid syndrome behave more aggressively. Treatment consists of salpingo-oophorectomy.

The image shows an ovarian carcinoid with insular pattern. The tumor cells are arranged in ill-defined clusters and nests separated by scant stroma.
