Image Description

Gross Pathology: Primary embryonal carcinomas (EC) of the ovary tend to be large bulky tumors (median size 17 cm). They have a smooth outer surface and a solid, friable, variegated cut surface with areas of hemorrhage and necrosis.

Microscopic Features: The morphology of ovarian EC is identical to its testicular counterpart. Primitive-appearing, pleomorphic cells form solid sheets, nests and aggregates, trabeculae, pseudoglandular and tubulo-papillary structures. (continued in the next image)
