Immature Teratoma : Microscopic
Image Description
MICROSCOPIC FEATURES: Immature teratomas of the ovary are composed of embryonal (immature) as well as variable amounts of histologically mature tissues derived from all the three germ cell layers. The most frequently seen tissues are neuroectodermal tubules and rosettes (depicted here) lined by mitotically-active hyperchromatic cells. Numerous glial cells may also be present. Immature mesodermal and endodermal derivatives occupy a smaller proportion of the tumor. Some cases have only endodermal elements (liver, esophagus, gastric mucosa, and intestinal elements).
