Image Description

Mature Cystic Teratoma of the Ovary: Teeth - which are derived partly from ectoderm (enamel) and partly from ectomesenchyme - are commonly found in mature cystic teratomas. Some cases even contain partially-formed alveolar ridge with a row of teeth (see images 42 and 43). Teeth are often present on a well-defined structure called Rokitansky protuberance. This image shows a section through a tooth in a mature cystic teratoma. Note the bone on the lower left and skin, adnexal and glandular structures on the lower right.
