Image Description

The cyst wall in this mature cystic teratoma is studded with yellow-white nodules of sebaceous material and tufts of hair (same case as the previous image). Sudden rupture may sometimes occur spilling this material into the peritoneal cavity causing acute abdomen. Slow leak can cause granulomatous peritonitis which may mimic tuberculous peritonitis or metastatic carcinoma during exploratory laparotomy.
