Image Description

At higher magnification, the tumor shows syncytial and trabecular growth patterns. The inflammatory component consists of lymphocytes, eosinophils, and a few plasma cells. Pure forms of lymphoepithelioma-like variant of urothelial carcinoma were initially thought to respond better to chemotherapy and considered to have a better prognosis. More recent studies do not fully support this view. Most cases present at advanced stages. An association with EBV has not been found to date.
