This cystectomy specimen from a female patient with intractable chronic interstitial cystitis shows massive thickening of the bladder wall, reduced capacity, and inflammed urothelial mucosa. Interstitial cystitis is a chronic inflammatory condition of the bladder usually affecting middle-aged women. It is often diagnosed clinically with bladder biopsy providing supportive evidence.
