Image Description

Malakoplakia of the urinary bladder. Several Michaelis-Gutmann bodies are seen in this image. On cystoscopy, malakoplakia appears as slightly elevated, yellowish plaques. Despite being a benign process, it can cause significant morbidity by compromising renal function secondary to development of ureteral strictures.
