Image Description
Adenocarcinomas can arise in the urachus - a fibrous cord-like remnant of the allantois which extends between the bladder dome and the umbilicus. The urachal remnant is usually lined by urothelium which can undergo metaplastic and neoplastic changes. In the case shown here, the tumor extended throughout the urachal tract and presented as an ulcerated lesion in the umbilicus proper. Note the squamous epithelium of the skin to the left.
